Strong community relations is critical to successful policing. Open meetings are held monthly in every precinct (click here for our events calendar) and the officers participate in many events, fundraisers, sports and school programs throughout the year.

Recently the Fourth Precinct officers stopped by Tutor Time in Commack to help celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday. The kids and the teachers enjoyed listening to the officers read Green Eggs and Ham, Snug House, Bug House and Put Me in the Zoo.  These police officers are investing in the future of our community, our kids.

Coffee with a Cop was back, and this time at the TJ Hero Shop in Mastic Beach, NY. Approximately 30 guests enjoyed a free cup of coffee while discussing safety and community issues that are important to them.  Coffee with a Cop provides an opportunity for citizens to interact with community officers face-to-face in a casual, stress-free setting.

A group of Girl Scouts stopped by the 5th Precinct recently to take a tour and learn what police officers do on a day-to-day basis. The girls asked questions about being a Suffolk County police officer, including how to become an officer, how officers train and the different types of police officers there are in the Department. The Girl Scouts also visited a holding cell and took turns turning on the lights and sirens in a police car. A fun, informational day was had by all!
