Northport-Aerial-HRes-2Northport is a historic village located on the North Shore of Suffolk County in the Town of Huntington. First incorporated as village in 1894, Northport is one of about 20 villages within the Suffolk County Police District that has its own police force.

The officers of the Northport police force are the members of the Northport PBA and very active in the Northport community. These officers embody professionalism and dedication to protecting their community. And as members of their PBA go above and beyond the call of duty for Northport.

In fact just recently, Sergeant Hughes, with no fire turnout gear, borrowed a Scott Pack and a water extinguisher from the Eatons Neck Fire Department and entered the burning building. Sergeant Hughes ensured that all of the occupants were out of the home and made his way to the second floor where the fire was burning. He knocked down the flames with the extinguisher can and when the can went dry, he retrieved a garden hose and continued to hold the flames at bay until fire apparatus arrived. His actions resulted in minimal damage to the structure, and are reflective of the dedication that the men and women of the Northport Police Department carry with them every day on patrol.

Northport’s historic village is a popular place to visit as temperatures rise. It’s harbor with Northport Memorial Park and frequent community concerts, coupled with a bustling Main Street with a multitude of restaurants and ice cream shops make for a fun family evening. And don’t forget if you visit this summer and should see a Northport police officer, make sure to thank them for their service.
