The Suffolk County Police Benevolent Association Silver Shield Award is presented to those Police Officers who have distinguished themselves in the line of duty while serving the citizens of  Suffolk County and the Suffolk County Police Department.

On April 7th, 2017 the Silver Shield Award will be presented to Officers Michael Cummings,  Anthony Russo, Peter Cunneen and Kevin Williamson.

ss-2009These officers were working in Emergency Service on the 7am – 3pm tour. At approximately 1:20pm they responded to a 911 call involving a man armed with knives in Central Islip. Upon arrival, the armed subject became aggressive and violent towards the police officers and stabbed Officer Cummings in the face. The subject was taken into custody after being shot in the abdomen by one of the officers.  Officer Cummings was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital where he underwent several hours of surgery for his facial wounds. The other Officers remained unharmed and on the job.

We are grateful for their service and courageous acts of duty responding to this call. The personal bravery involved in risking their lives to protect others from danger is the reason that the Suffolk County PBA proudly presented the 2016 Silver Shield Award to these fine Officers of the Emergency Service Team:

Congratulations.  God bless you and stay safe,

Officers Michael Cummings, Anthony Russo, Peter Cunneen and Kevin Williamson.
