Officers of the PBA, Derek Mangi and Ron Ross, volunteer their time to work with communities across Suffolk County.

Pictured below  are members of the Patchogue YMCA who had the opportunity to attend one of many free self-defense classes. These classes provide important safety tips and techniques that can be implemented by any individual to avoid and prevent a potentially dangerous situation. Members left the self-defense class with increased confidence, knowledge and a sense of personal well- being.  The Suffolk County PBA officers are encouraged by such positive feedback and enjoy spending quality time with community members for the benefit of all.

Among his many accolades, Officer Mangi has black belts in Brazilian and Combat Jiu Jitsu, and was ranked the No. 1 Heavy weight in the nation in 2008. He is a trainer at Monster BJ MMA in Smithtown, NY and a certified heavyweight boxing coach. Providing these Self Defense Workshops at the YMCALI is just another way that PBA Officers connect with and give back to the community in which they serve.
