Officer Tom Teufel’s career has focused on one thing: protecting our families, both on Long Island and overseas.

doubleduty3Officer Teufel joined the Suffolk County Police Department in 1995 and became a member of the Canine unit in 2006.  But public service wasn’t new to Tuefel, who had already served five years’ active duty as a Helicopter Crew Chief in the U.S. Army and was a reservist in the New York Army National Guard while also pursuing a career in the Police Department.

doubleduty1In 2008, Officer Teufel had to take military leave from the SCPD for deployment to Iraq as a Blackhawk Helicopter Crew Chief and Platoon Sergeant in the Flight Company.  Stationed at Camp Stryker and flying countless missions out of Baghdad International Airport for just over one-year, Teufel’s beautiful wife Nicole and two young boys, Tyler and Zach, were grateful to have their incredibly brave husband and dad return home safe and sound.

doubleduty2The SCPD Canine Patrol Unit was also grateful to have him back serving and protecting Suffolk County communities again. Officer Teufel is currently in the process of training his newest companion, Stryker (named after his base in Iraq!). Thank you, Officer Tom Tuefel, for doing Double Duty — protecting us here on Long Island and overseas!
