Veterans Day (November 11th) is the official federal public holiday dedicated to honoring all men and women who have served in the US Armed Services.

Unlike Memorial Day, Veterans Day honors living and deceased veterans of military service — recognizing their contributions to our national security and under- scoring that all those who served have sacrificed and are appreciated beyond measure.

The US Department of Veterans Affairs web site explanation on the official spelling of the holiday reminds us what we celebrate – Veterans Day uses the attributive (no apostrophe) rather than the possessive case (with apostrophe) “because it is not a day that ‘belongs’ to veterans, it is a day for honoring all veterans.”

The Veterans Day National Ceremony, like most ceremonies around the nation, is held on Veterans Day itself regardless of the day of the week it falls. However, when Veterans Day falls on a weekday, many organizations or communities choose to hold parades or other celebrations on the weekend before or after November 11th so that more people can attend.

FUN RUN: A 1K (0.6 mile) fun run will be held entirely on the golf course, starting at 9:30am. Entry fee is $5 and an authentic dog tag award and certificate of completion will be awarded to all finishers.

The 9th Annual Long Island Run For The Warriors will be held on Saturday November 12th.
